STAND READY
With binoculars raised, the sailor scans the horizon for vessels, aircraft, or anything that could threaten the ship’s course. Staying alert takes patience and discipline—especially when the sea is calm and nothing seems likely to happen.
Today’s Gospel carries forward yesterday’s theme: readiness. Peter asks Jesus whether the parable is meant for everyone. Jesus responds with the story of the master’s return and the servant’s choices. Those who are ready to welcome the master will rejoice and enter God’s kingdom. Those who choose wickedness and remain unrepentant will not, having turned away from faithful service. Let us not assume we have plenty of time; life can end sooner than we expect. How are you preparing for the Lord’s coming? Are you faithfully fulfilling your duties?
Jesus calls us to bring that same alertness to our spiritual lives.
Danger does not always announce itself with a sudden crash. Busyness can gradually push prayer, rest, and family time aside. Familiarity can lead us to take others for granted and miss the gifts and contributions they bring.
Distraction can make us overlook someone who needs encouragement, forgiveness, or a listening ear. If we are not watchful, small habits can quietly pull us away from God and one another.
Keeping watch means making space to recognize God’s presence in ordinary moments. We can pause before reacting, listen with care, express gratitude, and take stock of what receives most of our time and energy. Do our choices strengthen our relationships and reflect Christ’s love? Watchfulness is not fear—it is faithful readiness. Like sailors sharing responsibility for a ship, we can support one another through prayer, honesty, and service. Lord, send your Spirit to keep us attentive to YOU and to those around us, ready to respond with compassion whenever YOU come to us through an unexpected person, need, or opportunity.
Remember
“To whom much is given, much is expected.” Much is expected of us because, as Christians, we receive the grace of eternal life. We hear and keep God’s word, and we are called to bear witness to its values. Throughout our lives, we experience God’s undying love. Let us stay ready, for we do not know the day or hour when the Lord will come.
Prayer
Almighty Father,
creator of Heaven and earth and everything in between,
We humbly come before you with thanks giving in our hearts, asking for your never ending mercy.
We lift your name on high, above any name that has ever existed, our father and creator, we ask you to bless, protect and to pour your supernatural favor upon us, our children, spouses and friends.
God we ask you today for divine intervention in our lives, we ask for your touch in all areas of our lives, be it a new job, promotion, freedom from debt, rebuilding of our relationships with our spouses and friends.
Father any situation you touch, we believe it can never remain the same.
Father in heaven, let your will be done in our lives as your decision in our lives is the best and will always be the best
Amen
