Tuesday of week 29 in Ordinary Time

Ephesians 2:12-22 ·

Psalm 84(85):9-14

Luke 12:35-38

Ready for action

You can’t be radically hospitable with a miserable face. Go ahead—try it. Invite someone to table, scowl as you serve the soup, and see how that goes. Hospitality is joy made visible: a table set, a chair pulled out, and a heart waiting—patiently and gladly—for the master’s return or for any guest who may arrive.

As Christians, we are people of love: a love that stays, never gives up, and finds its way through the cracks of a broken heart. Truly, “What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Cor 2:9). To contemplate a love so vast and incomprehensible should stir us to let go of the glittering trinkets we sometimes cling to in this life and run into his waiting arms. We need eternity, for every other hope is too brief, too limited.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I give you my hands to do your work, my feet to go your way, my eyes to see as you do, and my tongue to speak your words. I give you my mind, that you may think in me, and my spirit, that you may pray in me. Above all, I give you my heart, that you may love in me—your Father and all mankind. I give you my whole self, that you may grow in me, so that you, Lord Jesus, live, work, and pray in me.
