Galatians 4:22-24,26-27,31-5:1

Psalm 112(113):1-7

Luke 11:29-32

THE LORD IS MY SALVATION

As the crowd grew larger, Jesus addressed them, saying, “This is a wicked generation, and it asks for a sign. The only sign that will be given is the sign of Jonah.”

When I compare the generation of Christ with our own, I believe that people then had not yet received a full revelation or understanding of who Christ is. They showed a sense of godliness, while our generation often struggles with conscience and moral awareness. Many in Jesus’ time sought to follow him closely, whereas today people may be more inclined to follow human opinions and expectations. If Jesus described his generation as wicked, it is difficult to find words to describe the challenges facing our own.

In Nigeria today, many things are done in the name of religion. As the saying goes, “You cannot change a leopard’s spots or stop a scorpion from stinging.” Churches can be found on many streets, yet we continue to face challenges in changing harmful behaviors. Christian denominations hold crusades, revivals, and vigils, but messages of patriotism and truth can sometimes seem to fade from view. Many people attend churches and mosques each weekend, yet throughout the week, hostility toward one another persists. Insecurity affects many communities; terrorism and kidnapping remain serious concerns; and fraud, political deception, and other challenges are seen across the federation. We face a troubling situation, and the path ahead is cause for concern. May God protect the people.

As our Savior said, the sign we need is the sign of Jonah: a sign of repentance and sincere conversion from the heart. When we make the changes we need to make, things can begin to turn for the better. We need God’s help now, and we must also seek a change of heart and a commitment to what is good.

Let us turn away from evil and learn to do good. Let us avoid wrongdoing and actions that oppose God’s will. Christ is the Sign and the image of the invisible God. Let us seek Christ and his kingdom, and all other things will be given to us. Matthew 6:33.

May we never become a source of harm to our nations or our generation, and may the Lord keep us from paths of destruction. Amen.

Prayer

Father, you are the foundation stone on which I build this business. You are my God, the wonderful Creator of everything I am and all that I see. I ask you to bless the work of my hands. May your kingdom be extended through this company. I desire for you to be involved in every area of it. Breathe upon this venture and fill it with your mighty presence. Come and shape, mold, and guide it so that it may be excellent in your sight. May it be a source of great blessing and goodness to those it serves. I ask this in the name of my Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
