Luke 12:54-59

GOD’S TIME AND THE SIGNS OF THE TIME

In today’s Gospel, Christ spoke about world affairs in relation to His second coming. His listeners worked as farmers or fishers and understood how to interpret the weather: clouds approaching from the west, where the sea lies beyond Jerusalem, signaled rain, while southern winds from the deserts brought heat. They used these signs to protect or store their crops and plan their journeys. Christ expected them to read the signs of His coming and the final days with similar discernment, caring for their souls as attentively as they forecast the weather. Yet nature is unpredictable, as is the hour of Christ’s return. He calls us to recognize salvation as a privilege and respond now, while it remains the acceptable time.

Every generation considers itself intellectually superior, building on the knowledge of those who came before. With more than two thousand years of accumulated wisdom, we might assume that we can understand Christ’s signs more clearly. However, our generation may also lack important pieces. Christ’s listeners, including His disciples, did not understand; centuries later, neither do I. One point is clear: understanding is a journey, as important as its destination. We should seek not signs of the end, but signs that guide us along the right path.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, I do not know what will happen to me today. I only know that nothing will happen that was not foreseen by You, and directed to my greater good from all eternity. I adore Your holy and unfathomable plans, and submit to them with all my heart for love of you. Amen.
