The Authority of Christ

 

Tuesday of week 22 in Ordinary Time 

1 Corinthians 2:10-16

Luke 4:31-37

When Jesus spoke, He didn’t need anyone to validate His words — He was the very embodiment of authority — the Word of God made flesh. Every time He spoke, God Himself spoke through Him. When He commanded, even demons trembled and obeyed. Do you truly recognize God’s overwhelming power and authority in your life? How do you respond when you hear God's Word in Scripture? Do you dismiss it, accept it with hesitation, or embrace it wholeheartedly with faith and obedience?

But here’s the punch — we all face our own battles. Our enemies don’t shout or wear frightening masks like the demon in the synagogue. Instead, they whisper in our minds — cynicism disguised as realism, self-protection pretending to be prudence, old grievances dressed up as justified. These demons don’t scream; they quietly settle into our thoughts, taking hold.

Paul doesn’t speak of possession outright, but his words reveal a similar battle. He urges us to shed the spirit of the world and instead, invite the Spirit of Christ. The transformation isn’t instant; it’s a gradual process — a step-by-step shift of the mind toward Christ.

Real change rarely comes in a flash. Often, it begins with a single pause — a moment of restraint, a judgment left unspoken. Even these small acts carry immense power — unlocking the freedom to let go of what’s held us back.
