FOR OUR SALVATION, GOD BECAME MAN


Athanasius spent a third of his time as bishop in exile. Although he served as the bishop of Alexandria, he was exiled five times because he opposed Arianism, which claimed that Jesus was a creature and not part of God. At the Council of Nicaea, he defended the Church’s orthodoxy by articulating the doctrine of homo-ousios, affirming that Christ shares the same substance as the Father.



This doctrine stands as one of the greatest truths of the Christian faith: that we can truly know the living God. Our knowledge goes beyond merely learning about God; it allows us to know Him personally. Jesus makes it possible for each of us to have a personal relationship with God. In Jesus, we see God's perfect love—a love that cares deeply and longs for humanity, loving us so much that He was willing to lay down His life on the cross. If we trust in Jesus and believe in Him, He promises that God the Father will hear our prayers when we call on His name. What could be more comforting than the truth that God knows us personally, and if we put our trust in Him, He will answer our prayers? 


Let's remember that the devil often tries to distract us with countless things that divert our focus from quiet moments with God. As often as necessary, let's choose to set aside time to be with Jesus in prayer, nurturing our relationship with Him.

I had just wrapped up the final lecture of the day at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome with my thesis moderator, Professor Lewis Ayres. This is the same prestigious university that counts St. Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Francis Prevost among its illustrious alumni!  On my way home, I called my mom to wish her a Happy Birthday, reminding her of my dad’s passing on the same day over a decade ago.
