The livIng brea is always with us.
Thursday of the 3rd week of Eastertide
Acts 8:26-40
Psalm 65(66):8-9,16-17,20
John 6:44-51
Philip was among the first seven deacons selected, alongside Stephen (Acts 6:5). Following Stephen's martyrdom, he extended the Gospel to Samaria, where his efforts yielded fruitful results. Subsequently, he was led to the Jerusalem-Gaza Road, where he baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:26-38). Later, the Spirit guided him to Azotus and other towns.
Philip stands as a significant early Christian missionary, exemplifying a life directed by the Holy Spirit—willing to go where it leads, to explain Scripture, and to guide others towards Jesus.
Mission involves both internal and external aspects. We seek the Spirit’s guidance to evangelize, preach, teach, and lead others to Christ. Do we view following Christ as our sole choice, or merely one option among many? Are we prepared to be led by the Spirit in every facet of our lives?
In the ongoing Bread of Life discourse, Jesus declares, ‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven,’ emphasizing His role as the eternal food—imperishable and offering eternal life. He remains with us until the end of time.
The Eucharist embodies Jesus Himself—the living, true presence—offering strength, peace, hope, joy, and salvation. His dwelling in our tabernacles serves as a constant reminder of His presence. Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament reflects mindfulness of this presence and the graces of salvation.
We mustn't take the Lord for granted; His divinity remains a sacred mystery, and His presence renders Him accessible and vulnerable to us. He is present in the tabernacle, unaffected by the purity or faults of saints and sinners alike, available through conscience and the sacramental life.
Jesus exemplifies mercy by offering reconciliation and forgiveness. He invites us to amend our sins and embrace eternal life through His mercy. His vulnerability makes Him approachable.
Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, models a proper reception of Holy Communion. She believed, conceived, and followed Jesus, trusting in His resurrection and ascension. She received Him at the table with the disciples and believed in His risen nature. May we humbly follow her example and seek her guidance on our journey to her Son.
Peace be with you.
