25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Amos 8:4-7

Psalm 112(113):1-2,4-8

1 Timothy 2:1-8

Luke 16:1-13

Today’s readings dive deep into the vibrant themes of prioritization and living out our core values with passion! In our first lesson, we meet Amos—a farmer turned prophet from the Southern Kingdom, who boldly calls out the injustices of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. His voice rings clear as he critiques the wealthy for their deceitful scales and for exploiting the vulnerable. Amos reminds us that God is watching and will hold accountable those who engage in unfair practices. The responsorial psalm joyfully declares, “Praise be to God who raises the poor!”

Then, in the Gospel where Jesus shares an eye-opening parable about a crafty steward. This man, though dishonest, is praised for his cleverness! Jesus teaches us a profound truth: we cannot serve both God and money. The term “mammon,” which translates to riches in Aramaic, emphasizes this tension. The steward, caught up in his own greed, learns to prioritize his employer over his own gain.

Today’s readings ignite several vital lessons for us as Christians!

First, we must approach the way we accumulate and use wealth with prudence. Whether it’s our personal, family, or business budgets, they are crucial reflections of our theological, moral, and value-oriented beliefs.

Secondly, we need to prove ourselves trustworthy in the little things so we can be entrusted with greater responsibilities in God’s kingdom. Jesus clearly states we cannot serve two masters—God must always come first, even before our jobs and financial pursuits.

Now comes the exciting question for reflection: how are we spending our time and money? Are our priorities genuinely showcasing a life that puts God at the forefront? Let’s embrace this week with intention and grace, striving to take one bold action that demonstrates our family’s commitment to serving God over money!
