The Transfiguration of the Lord - Feast

Daniel 7:9-10,13-14

Psalm 96(97):1-2,5-6,9

Luke 9:28-36

On the feast of the Transfiguration, we witness an awe-inspiring display of divine power as our Lord unveils His true identity and glorious essence, reaching back to the very foundation of the world!

Imagine this: Our Lord has ascended a majestic mountain with His three closest disciples—the first to follow Him, those who would stand by Him in His darkest hour in the garden of Gethsemane. As he prays, an incredible transformation occurs right before their eyes! His appearance radiates with a dazzling light, granting them a breathtaking glimpse of His glorified body, bursting forth with the shining brilliance that awaits Him after the resurrection.

So, what is unveiled in this magnificent moment of the Transfiguration? The disciples, likely grappling with confusion and despondency due to His talk of suffering and death, are filled with faith but lack something crucial—hope! Hope is what they need to fortify their spirits and carry them through their uncertainty and His ominous teachings about the necessity of His sacrifice. The Transfiguration empowers them to journey with their Master to Jerusalem, the very place where His glorious destiny will unfold through His death. It’s through this ultimate sacrifice that He invites us to partake in that same glory!

This extraordinary event is perfectly suited for Lent, encouraging us to pray just as Christ does. It serves as a powerful reminder of the significance of our voluntary self-denial during this sacred season. The Transfiguration offers us a tantalizing glimpse of Christ's hidden glory as we prepare for the deeply meaningful journey of Holy Week. It fills us with hope, guiding us toward the glorious reward that God promises to all who remain steadfast until the end—a blessing I fervently wish for us all!
