WHAT SIGN DO YOU NEED TO HAVE FAITH?
MONDAY OF THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME.
Ex 14:5-18
Exodus 15:1-6
Mtt 12:38-42
It's incredible how easily we can overlook God's vibrant presence in our lives! In today's first reading (Ex 14:5-18), we find the Israelites gripped by fear as the mighty Egyptian army, complete with chariots and charioteers, closes in on them. In their panic, they turn to Moses and God, questioning whether Moses is truly their leader and whether he was sent by God. They're so overwhelmed with fear that they'd rather remain enslaved than face death in the desert! But Moses steps up, giving them a wake-up call about their wavering trust in God. He reminds them of the miraculous signs and wonders that brought them out of Egypt and assures them that God is with them and will deliver even greater miracles.
Fast forward to the Gospel (Matt 12:38-42), where the scribes and Pharisees demand a sign to prove that Jesus carries God's authority. Jesus doesn't hold back in calling them out for their lack of faith! These readings invite us to reflect: “Why do I keep seeking new signs from God, expecting Him to perform miracles before I fully trust Him?” Our faith shouldn’t hinge on what we desire God to do, but instead on the extraordinary gifts He has already given us: life itself and salvation through Christ!
This doesn’t mean we can’t bring our needs to Him—absolutely, we should! But let's not base our belief on something we demand from Him. Instead, let’s stand in awe of what He continuously does for us. Each day, we should look for those divine moments and offer our heartfelt thanks!
Do you ever catch yourself trying to bargain with God before placing your trust in Him? After a prayer is answered, do you remember to express your gratitude? How can you uplift others who feel trapped or overwhelmed? Let’s unite in recognizing and celebrating God’s incredible grace in our lives. May we always praise Him for the countless ways He enriches our journeys. Amen! Wishing you a grace-filled week ahead!
