God writes straight with crooked lines.
Thursday of week 12 in Ordinary Time
Genesis 16:1-12,15-16
Psalm 105(106):1-5
Matthew 7:21-29
Today's readings are nothing short of electrifying! The first reading presents a dramatic tale that, if it weren't a sacred scripture, might raise eyebrows in today's libraries. Hagar, the Egyptian maidservant of Sarai, gives birth to Abram's child, Ishmael—it's a story packed with tension and complex relationships!
Now, strap in for the selection from the Gospel of Matthew, which hits hard! There's a trend where many cloak themselves in self-righteousness, acting like they’re the official messengers of God. We’re witnessing a wave of name-calling and disparaging remarks tossed around by self-proclaimed, cross-wearing Christians who think they’re championing the Lord's cause. But here’s the kicker: Jesus boldly states, “Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers!’” Talk about a wake-up call!
Let’s hold on tight to the saying, “God writes straight with crooked lines.” It’s a powerful reminder to keep our hearts humble and receptive to God’s incredible wisdom. We often underestimate the miraculous transformations possible in others. Just look at how God reshaped lives: Abram transforms into Abraham, Sarai into Sarah, and Peter, the denier, becomes the very rock upon which the church stands! The last shall be first, and life springs from death!
We’re all on this thrilling journey together, each chapter brimming with surprises. We can't see the full picture or grasp the mind of God. But one thing is crystal clear: God is love. He loves us fiercely, and Jesus models this love in action, especially towards the poor and the outcasts. If we focus on this transformative love, we might just find we have less time to judge and tear others down. Now that’s an inspiring way to live!
Thanks Fada, May we never departed from God.
