FOURTH WEEK OF LENT(YEAR B)


 Isaiah 65:17-21

Psalm 29(30)2,4-6,11-13

Gospel Jn 4:43-54



In today’s readings, we explore the theme of renewal and fulfillment of divine promises. The first reading from Isaiah (Is 65:17-21) serves as a proclamation of a transformative existence that God envisions—a reality devoid of suffering and despair. The imagery presented suggests a radical shift: the cessation of weeping and the assurance of life for infants, highlighting a renaissance of societal and individual well-being.



In the corresponding Gospel narrative, Jesus exemplifies this vision by healing the son of a royal official. This interaction underscores the principle that faith, rather than physical proximity to the divine, is paramount for healing and salvation. The official's desperate yet resolute search for Jesus epitomizes parental devotion and the lengths to which one will go to seek restoration for a loved one. John’s account of this miracle purposefully illustrates not merely the physical act of healing but serves as a pointer to the authority and divinity of Jesus. 



Believers must realize that miracles, while impactful, are not the foundation of faith; rather, they act as conduits leading us toward Christ. Our faith must persist, anchored in trust, independent of tangible manifestations of divine intervention. The narrative reaffirms that spatial dimensions and temporal constraints present no barriers to divine action—Jesus transcends these limitations.



As we reflect on our faith journeys, we are encouraged to not only recognize our destination—eternal union with God—but also to remain considerate of our fellow travelers. This mutual support can help sustain one another's faith and keep our collective gaze directed toward the promise revealed through Christ’s passion and resurrection.



As we go about our daily tasks, may we be granted the grace to maintain our focus on the ultimate calling while being attentive to the needs and faith journeys of those accompanying us. Let us embrace our shared experiences and continue to celebrate the extraordinary acts of God’s grace in our lives. Amen.

They witness the behavior of the tenant farmers in a parable, which mirrors their violence, selfishness, and desire for possession. Despite being confronted with the truth, they are too afraid to change and miss the opportunity for a conversion of heart. Instead, they react defensively and deceive themselves, eventually acting out the negative roles depicted in the parable.  The Church commemorates the Martyrs of Uganda today, particularly St. Charles Lwanga and their companions, who bore witness to Christ by sacrificing their lives. This serves as a reminder for us to be faithful stewards of God's creation and caretakers of His people, willing to serve with love and faith, even to the point of laying down our lives.
