The joy of the Ascension of the Lord

Today is Ascension of our Lord, it brings our minds to everlasting liberty. We will  live together forever as one. Our voices will ring victory to the Lamb of God who sits on the throne. What we have reported by Luke in his Gospel and Acts of the apostles , draws our attention to the Transfiguration.

We see a striking synergy between Christ, Moses the chief law giver of the Old Testament and Elijah the greatest prophet of Israel. By this he is affirming that Christ is indeed the new Moses and Elijah in whom we can find the fulfilment of all the old testament laws and prophecies. He has fulfilled all that the law and the prophets says.

After his Resurrection, and for forty days, He took this time appearing to them to assure them that He had truly risen, and to adequately prepare them for the mission ahead of carrying on the good news as His witnesses to the Jews and gentiles, and indeed to the ends of the earth.

This departure of Christ today signifies both an end and a new beginning for His disciples since it marks the end of His physical presence with them and yet the beginning of His presence with them in a new way. It is in this new way that He would be with them through the Holy Spirit enabling them to be witnesses for Him to the end of time (Matthew 28:20)

As He sends His disciples today, we are also called to be His witnesses in a like manner to the ends of the earth.

However, we must ask ourselves, are we ready to be His witnesses? What does it mean to be a witness for Christ today?

Let us therefore see today as a day we celebrate our Christian hope. A day truth is fully defined and fulfilled.

A day we fully share in God’s life in Heaven ad Jesuit theologian Karl Rahner says about the Ascension, “God holds eternally within Godself the results of creation’s history as God’s own reality, and lets it participate in God’s own life for all eternity.

A shinning day when our dream comes through and eternal life in Christ has seen us through. A day when all pains and sorrows will be wipe away as we soar with everlasting joy in our lips as we glide away.

We will raise our voices together as one. Yes we are free forever! Victory to the Lamb of God! Victory to Christ who sits on the throne!

Happy Feast of the Ascension!
